This apprenticeship gives you a unique chance to help deliver content for TV, radio, online and other digital services, working alongside creative talent across the UK. You’ll learn about technologies and systems for TV, radio and digital channels, and industry standards for broadcast‑communication systems, media content systems and IP networks. You’ll develop the specialised skills to design, build and maintain media production and broadcasting technologies that will shape the BBC’s future. WHY JOIN THE TEAM? In Tunbridge Wells you’ll be part of a close‑knit team of broadcast engineers responsible for keeping Radio Kent, Sussex and Surrey on air and supporting regional TV bulletins. You’ll collaborate with operations and journalism teams, delivering technical expertise that underpins every aspect of broadcasting. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT Develop your understanding of how live content is acquired and presented to studios, recording areas, playout facilities and distribution platforms in the formats required. Acquire operational and engineering skills, learning to use a variety of tools and systems and troubleshooting when things go wrong. Build communication and teamwork skills while working as part of a varied team and liaising directly with other departments across the BBC. You’ll study for a recognised apprenticeship qualification through a blend of online and face‑to‑face teaching blocks at Birmingham City University, covering: Audio and Vision Engineering Electrical and Electronic Engineering IP Networks Computer Science Broadcast Technology Database Technology Engineering Mathematics YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY Fascinated by how things work and passionate about solving technical problems in media technology. Capable of managing multiple deadlines and adapting calmly to changing circumstances. A self‑starter, flexible and willing to work out‑of‑hours when required. Non‑graduate applicants are welcome; qualified graduates should apply for suitable roles elsewhere on the BBC careers site. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship starts (September 2026). Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start. Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration. Not currently enrolled in another apprenticeship programme. Have Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent). Have at least 112 UCAS points (or 300 if before 2017). Have an A Level/Higher Maths, or an extended BTEC in Engineering with Engineering Maths (or equivalent).
