Your primary duty will be to independently perform, analyse, and produce detailed, definitive diagnostic reports for a wide range of general and gynaecological scans. You will be essential in providing clinicians with the critical information they need for patient diagnosis and management.A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety throughout the clinical process. The post-holder will be responsible for the production of definitive diagnostic reports, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety are maintained at all times.Clinical Practice:To perform and autonomously report on a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including general abdominal, gynaecological, obstetrics, and small parts.To utilise and apply advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to produce high-quality images and accurate diagnostic reports.To be responsible for the care and safety of patients throughout the examination process, ensuring informed consent and addressing any patient anxieties.To identify and respond to unexpected findings or clinical emergencies, seeking further clinical opinion as necessary.To participate in specialist ultrasound areas such as Musculoskeletal (MSK) and vascular examinations, where competency allows.Professional & Quality:To maintain high professional standards and adhere to departmental protocols and procedures.To be responsible for the safe use and daily checking of highly complex ultrasound equipment, reporting any faults promptly.To contribute to clinical audit and governance activities to ensure continuous service improvement.To maintain state registration with the HCPC or equivalent body and fulfil requirements for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).Communication & Teamwork:To communicate complex and sensitive diagnostic information effectively to patients, carers, and multi-disciplinary team members.To work collaboratively with Radiologists, Radiographers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless patient pathway.To provide advice and support to junior staff and student sonographers, fostering a positive learning environment.OtherThis list of duties is not exhaustive and may be subject to change in accordance with the needs of the service.Person specificationQualificationsBSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Medical Ultrasound.Current and valid registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or equivalent.ExperienceSignificant post-qualification experience as an autonomous Sonographer. Recent and proven experience within the UK or Isle of Man healthcare system. Demonstrable expertise in independent reporting for general, gynaecology, and obstetrics ultrasound. In-depth knowledge of a wide range of pathology and its sonographic appearance. Experience at Band 7 level within an acute NHS or similar setting. Competency in performing MSK and vascular ultrasound examinations. Experience in clinical audit or service improvement projects.Skills & AbilitiesAbility to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, definitive reports. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload effectively. A patient-centred approach with a compassionate and professional manner.
