Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4+) in Paediatrics The closing date is 14 December 2025 Applications are invited for the above full time, fixed term post to cover maternity leave, for this 660 bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The maternity service had 5500 deliveries per year. This appointment will be made in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England) 2002. The appointee will have training in Paediatrics, confident in managing Paediatric medical emergencies and assess patients in general Paediatric outpatient clinics. The successful post holder will join 12 WTE middle grade Paediatric rota made up of ST3+ Paediatric trainees and Senior Clinical Fellows, providing cover to Paediatric Assessment unit, Inpatient wards including High dependency care and outpatient clinic. They will work closely with the extended MDT team of nurses, Advanced Clinical practitioners, Dieticians, Physiotherapists pharmacist and play team, consultants as well as professionals from other subspecialty teams. Main duties of the job Assessment and initial management of patients referred to the Paediatric Assessment Unit from Primary care and Emergency Department Attending Paediatric emergencies in Emergency Department and on the ward Inpatient ward round, including high dependency care with management planning and co-ordination of care in liaison with attending consultant Assessment and management planning of patients in outpatient clinic with consultant input and supervision Participation in teaching and training and appropriate All applicants will be required to demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language. Person Specification Qualifications MBBS or equivalent MRCPCH (Part 1 & 2) or equivalent APLS, NLS, MRCPH Full registration with the GMC (GMC Licence to Practise is mandatory before employment commences) Eligibility to work in the UK Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment and 3 years paediatric experience including neonatal experience, in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice Good acute clinical care in Paediatrics Teaching Interest and experience in medical student and junior doctor teaching where required in the job. Good teaching and training Evidence of Publications and Presentations Clinical Skills Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences, and 3 years paediatric experience including neonatal experience, in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice. Acute care safe: up-to-date BLS and NLS. Out of hours experience relevant to the job. Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: Up to date knowledge of paediatrics and evidence of an understanding of its application Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need. Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required for the job. Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.
