The Role At Howden, we are passionate about enabling our customers to achieve sustainable solutions through innovative engineering. As Project Manager for Cryogenic Systems, you will lead the delivery of cryogenic truck repair and overhaul projects across the UK. This is a highly technical and customer-facing role, where you will oversee complex mechanical systems including braking, axles, suspension, and cryogenic components, often working with third-party vendors to ensure projects are executed to the highest standards. You will act as the single point of contact for clients, managing relationships and ensuring their requirements are fully understood and delivered. From sales handover through to project completion, you will coordinate resources, procurement, and schedules, while maintaining compliance with contractual obligations and company standards. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams such as engineering, quality assurance, production, and finance, as well as external suppliers and customers. You will be responsible for managing budgets, cash flows, and project margins, while providing regular updates to both management and clients. We are looking for a proactive and technically skilled project manager who thrives in dynamic environments, balancing operational detail with strategic oversight. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Howden's reputation for engineering excellence and customer success. Who we are Howden has a range of compressors, blowers, fans, steam turbines, and rotary heat exchangers, and has been at the forefront of developing engineered solutions for the needs of industrial processes since 1854. In 2023, Howden joined forces with Chart Industries, a global leader in engineered equipment for clean energy and industrial gas markets. Together, we operate over 64 manufacturing sites and 50+ service centres worldwide, with 11,700+ employees driving innovation in hydrogen, carbon capture, energy recovery, nuclear, water treatment, mining, and LNG. As part of the Nexus of Clean™, we are advancing a sustainable future—helping customers improve efficiency and reduce emissions across clean power, water, food, and industrial sectors. Join us and be part of a purpose-driven team shaping the future and tackling some of the planet's most urgent challenges, all while growing your career in a dynamic global environment. What you will do Lead cryogenic truck repair and overhaul projects nationally, coordinating third-party vendors and internal teams. Act as the single point of contact for clients, managing relationships and ensuring satisfaction. Oversee the full project lifecycle from sales handover to delivery, including procurement, scheduling, and invoicing. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Manage project cash flows, budgets, and margins, providing regular performance reports. Coordinate troubleshooting, repair, and testing of cryogenic systems, including piping, valves, insulation, and vacuum components. Organise welding, fabrication, and calibration tasks with workshop teams. Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts, and maintenance schedules for full traceability. What do you bring? HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline. PMP/APMP qualification or equivalent project management experience. Proven experience with trailers, ideally cryogenic or specialised systems. Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Experience using D365 ERP systems. Excellent project management skills, including scheduling, resource allocation, and financial control. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively. Problem-solving mindset with the ability to think laterally and implement corrective actions. Familiarity with vacuum systems and cryogenic equipment is a strong advantage. Commitment to customer service, engineering quality, and continuous improvement. We've put together some criteria that we think is important for this role, but don't worry if your experience and expertise isn't an exact match.
