Teacher of French

Overview Scalby Academy is looking to appoint a Teacher of French to cover a maternity leave, on a full‑time temporary basis from December 2025 or January 2026 for one year or until the substantive post holder returns. Responsibilities Deliver and adapt French lessons based on a carefully sequenced five‑year curriculum. Use the online coursebook, trust knowledge organisers and an online learning platform to support vocabulary acquisition. Incorporate cultural topics into each unit to foster a love of languages and a desire to learn about people from French‑speaking countries. Work alongside a team of 17 modern language assistants and the senior MFL director to support teachers and pupils. Participate in subject‑specific CPD sessions every half term and share best practice with the wider trust. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants will be considered based on their skills, abilities, experience, knowledge, and any necessary qualifications and training. The role requires a clear understanding of the national curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages and the ability to adapt prepared lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners. School and Trust Information Scalby Academy is a 11‑16 community school with approximately 1,000 pupils, located in Scarborough on the North Yorkshire coast. School rating: consistently Good, most recently in 2024; P8 score placed the school in the top 14% of UK schools. The Trust has been approved to join the DFE Latin Centre of Excellence programme and is preparing a bid to become one of 15 MFL hubs nationwide.
