The Role We are seeking an Actuary to join our Insurance Reserving team on a 12 month Fixed-Term Contract. Responsibilities To support the Insurance Reserving Manager with the delivery of the Actuarial Reserving Team’s objectives. To manage and provide direction to others, so that actuarial services provided within the team are in line with the actuarial business plan and broader strategic objectives within Aspen. To provide high quality actuarial analysis to support the Actuarial Function achieving its strategic objectives, and overall company ambition to achieve sustainable portfolios and profitable growth whilst ensuring corporate and actuarial governance standards are being met. The role requires the ability to interact with key stakeholders including Underwriting to secure their buy-in and the ability to apply knowledge and insights concerning Actuarial reserving techniques, technology and programming knowledge. Our Aspen Values are expected to be reflected in the delivery and performance of every role. Key Accountabilities Develop a thorough understanding of various portfolios within Aspen – understanding the underlying business written, loss triggers, geographic concentrations, significant insureds/reinsureds, etc. Demonstrate an ability to lead a team of analysts in meeting/exceeding deadlines and manage team through meetings with Claims, Underwriting and the UK Chief Actuary. Willingness and ability to integrate information from other teams within the company (particularly but not limited to Claims and Underwriting) to develop reserve recommendations. Communicate and defend analyses within Aspen to Sr Management. Meet regularly with teams outside of the reserving unit (including but not limited to UW, Claims, and Finance) and provide actuarial insights to profitability of the various portfolios. Identify areas of opportunity for improvement within the unit on processes, documentation, and alternative approaches to estimating reserves and effect change within the group Demonstrate an ability to be a source of knowledge for teams outside of the reserving unit. Support the functions understanding and effective articulation of the legal and regulatory demands that impact the actuarial team, and the broader business, to contribute to decision making with regards to technical actuarial issues, risk appetite and underwriting strategy. Contribute to a collaborative, values driven team culture. Knowledge & Experience Expert knowledge of actuarial analysis across pricing, reserving and model development Strong technical experience with data manipulation Established knowledge of actuarial techniques used for pricing and/or reserving insurance Proficient user of simulation techniques and other actuarial techniques used for pricing loss sensitive product features Good understanding of financial services industry best practice in actuarial analysis, modelling, and underwriting Good understanding of compliance issues Extensive experience in corporate or consulting environment, the majority in general insurance Extensive general experience in insurance industry involving data/analysis/systems/projects Preferred area of studies in a field where analytical and problem-solving skills were fundamental and clear written and verbal communication skills were encouraged At Aspen we know that having a diverse and inclusive workforce is good for our people, good for our business and good for the environments in which we operate.
