Heavy Diesel, Auto Electrical and Airconditioning Technician Horizon West Bus and Coachlines is seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Diesel, Auto‑Electrical and/or Auto‑Air‑Conditioning Technician to join our workshop team. About the Role In this role, you will be responsible for performing safe, timely, and cost‑effective repair and maintenance on our diverse fleet of vehicles, including diesel, electrical, and air‑conditioning systems. You will work closely with the Workshop Manager and Senior Trades personnel to optimise the operational efficiency of our vehicles. Key Responsibilities General Maintenance: Perform routine A, B, and C servicing on all vehicle types. Conduct Road Safety Inspections to ensure vehicle compliance ahead of HVAIS inspections. Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical, electrical, and air‑conditioning systems. Lead breakdown repairs and vehicle recoveries to minimize downtime. Conduct daily fleet checks to assess vehicle condition and identify potential maintenance needs. Provide preventative maintenance recommendations to improve vehicle reliability. Disassemble, repair, and replace critical components like engines, transmissions, and steering mechanisms. Conduct system diagnostics and repair or replace defective parts using specialised tools and equipment. Auto‑Electrical: Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including lighting, alternators, and starter motors. Calibrate and repair electronic components such as sensors, ECUs, and dashboard displays. Inspect and address potential issues in electrical systems to prevent failures. Air‑Conditioning: Perform repairs and replacements of air‑conditioning components, including compressors and evaporators. Conduct gas recharging services, adhering to environmental regulations. Ensure optimal performance of air‑conditioning systems through inspection and cleaning. Administration & Communication (Approx. 10% Time Allocation) Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure cost‑effective procurement of parts and services. Accurately record maintenance and repair work for tracking and vehicle service history. Communicate effectively with Operations to coordinate vehicle availability and inform of out‑of‑service vehicles. Provide guidance and support to apprentices, helping them develop their technical skills in diesel, electrical, and air‑conditioning systems. Demonstrate and reinforce safe work practices, ensuring apprentices comply with workplace health and safety policies. Regularly review apprentice progress and provide feedback to the Workshop Manager. Skills & Experience Required Qualifications: Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical or equivalent. Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent. Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology or equivalent. Valid Heavy Rigid Western Australian driver’s licence. Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in diesel fitting, auto‑electrical, or vehicle air‑conditioning systems. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong mentoring and interpersonal skills. Intermediate data entry skills and computer literacy.
