Senior Specification Technologist – Ingredients Location: Blackburn Type: Permanent Hours: Monday‑Friday 9:00‑17:00 (earlier start possible) Salary: circa £35,000 Benefits: Enhanced pension (4/8, 5/10, 6/12) contribution, private medical, company bonus (performance‑based), parking onsite Job Summary Our client, an ingredients company part of a global group, is looking to recruit an experienced Snr Specification Technologist or a technologist wishing to progress their career, working at a modern facility in Blackburn with excellent motorway links. Key Responsibilities Assist with formulation trials, stability testing and translating R&D products into manufacturing‑ready specifications. Check associated labelling/artwork and/or formulation against agreed specifications. Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure raw material and finished product specifications are accurate. Assist with continued QMS development. Assist and complete internal auditing (not supplier). Assist and complete labelling audits. Assist and complete GMP audits. Data entry using Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc. Deputise for the Technical Manager during annual leave, busier periods and ad‑hoc. Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor and in the laboratory, collaborating with staff and senior leaders. Interact with clients and report updates to clients. Ensure compliance with UK and EU food regulations (e.g., FSA, Allergen Labelling, E‑numbers, REACH, IFRA standards). Candidate Profile Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or a STEM‑related discipline. Experience in a similar QA, Specification Tech or related role within a BRC (or GMP) company in Food, Ingredients, nutraceuticals, etc. Internal auditing experience (BRC); GMP experience desirable but not essential. Experience creating and reporting Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Proficient with Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc. HACCP certificates desirable. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
