OverviewAEC are recruiting for a Site Team Manager who will lead our Asbestos Team in Manchester. The role will promote and enhance standards within the company and will act as a line-manager in order to improve communication, efficiency, services, staff skills and competency. This role involves contact and support of staff in their role. A key element is the efficiency of AEC as a business, and the support, encouragement and retention of staff. The RoleAnswering principally to the Technical Operations Director, and based at the Manchester head office, this is a full-time line-management role of project managers, senior surveyors, analysts, assistant surveyors & domestic surveyors. The manager must be able to deliver both positive and negative feedback, and spot bad habits as well as best practice. Where necessary they may have to review the role of staff and where applicable re-train, so must have the interpersonal skills to address such issues. A key element of the role is being available to staff to speak with them and assist them in their future development and to address swiftly any problems they raise. They will provide feedback to the director team and to other senior management on business operations and ways to improve efficiency. What You’ll Be Doing Liaise with the senior management and management team to obtain technical support for all site team staff. Run the weekly training meeting and allocate the technical resources to achieve training plans and staff development. Attend key operational meetings, present information and cascade information to and from the relevant site managers. Where required, with senior managers and managers run toolbox talks for site staff to ensure good practice, good communication, and consultation is achieved. Engender a culture of openness and consultation. To work closely with the management team (directors and other managers) to ensure AEC runs efficiently and profitably. It is expected all managers support and co-operate with each other for the common good of the business. Engender positive relationships with other departments so all understand, co-operate and support each other, and solve problems for the greater good of the organisation. Develop training plans for staff under their purview to allow progression. Working closely with the training team, resource team and quality team. Working together to monitor project quality and adherence to company standards and identifying improvement in processes, efficiency and safety. Line-management Act as line-manager to asbestos site staff, from assistant surveyors through to project managers. Carry out annual appraisals on staff and be available to staff. Develop training plans for staff annually and keep in touch on progress. Review timesheets and expenses for salaries. Work with staff to ensure AECs contracts and work commitments are met i.e. staff rotas, working away and weekends. Ensure staff retention through good communication with staff. This is a role of staff welfare and contact, where they feel they can be open and honest with the manager. The manager’s role is to be aware of all their staff, and to have open discussions. Foster a positive safety culture, promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Creating open communication channels between site teams, management and clients ensuring staff are valued, supported and listened to. Provide progress updates, resolve issues and ensure client satisfaction. Deliver both positive and challenging news with honesty, empathy, and respect, maintaining trust and morale within the team. Disciplinary procedures, where required, alongside HR. Recruitment of new staff and review of staff for promotion. Generation of requisitions and involvement in second interview process. Also liaising with resource manager regarding gap analysis. Promote staff retention and highlight staff achievements and longevity using the AEC intranet, awards, innovations etc. Implement regular team briefings, toolbox talks, and feedback sessions to keep staff engaged, informed, and aligned with project goals. Foster an environment of trust, respect, and safety, ensuring staff feel supported in raising concerns or suggestions. Act as a trusted point of contact between management, site team and clients ensuring transparency and consistency of messaging. What We’re Looking For 5 years’ proven experience in asbestos surveying, analytical and management. Strong knowledge of CAR 2012 and HSE guidelines. BOHS P402/P403/P404/P405 or equivalent. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Full UK driving license.
