Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Learning Disability The closing date is 15 December 2025 Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) is looking to recruit a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in CAMHS Learning Disabilities (LD). This post is suitable for doctors who are on the specialist register in CAMHS or LD. Candidates who are due to gain a CCT or equivalent in the next 6 months may also apply. The post holder will be involved in direct assessment and management of the mental health of children and young people with learning disabilities. The Children's Learning Disabilities service is a well-established service with a national reputation and has well developed multidisciplinary working practices with a range of clinicians across Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Support Work. Additionally, we have very good relationships with Special Schools, Disabled Children's Social Care and Disabled Children's Care Homes. A significant number of clinical contacts will take place in special school clinics. To join us in this exciting venture, we are looking for a suitably qualified LD CAMHS Consultant who: Holds themselves to high professional standards. Displays and believes in the Trust's visions and values. Is ambitious and dynamic, interested in life‑long learning and career development. Main duties of the job The role will involve: Providing direct psychiatric services through the clinical assessment, diagnosis and care plan, risk assessment and management plans, treatment formulation, prescribing and working with the team on implementing evidence‑based interventions for children and young people aged 0‑19 years with a moderate to profound Learning Disability. Working alongside Consultant Psychiatrists and the multi‑disciplinary team in the provision of services for this area and participating in formulating and implementing appropriate care plans around physical healthcare needs of service users in CAMHS LD. Working closely with core and specialist community teams within FTB and in the wider health economy, serving as psychiatric liaison with other agencies particularly regarding continuity of patient care. Person Specification scoring Full GMC registration with a licence to practice Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983) or be prepared to undertake approval within 3 months after joining. Evidence of potential for effective leadership. Ability to work creatively within multi-disciplinary team.
