Primary and secondary SEN (Special Educational Needs) provisions in Andover and the surrounding areas are seeking experienced Teaching Assistants, particularly those with a background in supporting pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, and sensory differences. These schools cater for children and young people who require structured, personalised support to access learning and develop essential life and social skills.You will be working with pupils who may experience:Autism spectrum conditions, including communication differences, sensory sensitivities, and a need for routineModerate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)Speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN)Difficulties with social interaction or understanding social cuesCognitive delays that impact working memory, processing speed, and retentionSensory processing challenges, including overload, shutdowns, or avoidanceAnxiety related to transitions, unfamiliar tasks, or changes in routineThese pupils benefit from patient, consistent, and highly structured support. You will play a vital role in helping them develop independence, communication skills, confidence, and a positive sense of belonging within the school environment.As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other support staff to:Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual learning needsImplement structured learning programmes and scaffold tasks appropriatelyUse visual supports, sensory strategies, and communication aids (e.g., PECS, Makaton)Support pupils during moments of sensory or emotional overwhelm using calm, regulated approachesEncourage social communication, interaction, and independent learning skillsAssist with personal care routines where requiredHelp maintain predictable, low-arousal classroom environmentsContribute to EHCP targets, learning journals, and ongoing SEN assessmentsFull-time and part-time positions availableTerm-time onlyTraining opportunities provided (e.g., autism strategies, communication methods, sensory regulation)Pay dependent on experience and the specific settingLocation: Andover and surrounding areasThis role is particularly well suited to:Experienced Teaching Assistants, especially those who have worked in SEN, autism, or specialist provisionsIndividuals with experience in communication support or learning disability servicesThose confident using structure, routine, and supportive strategies to assist pupils with diverse learning needsApplicants who are patient, calm, and able to adapt to different learning stylesPeople passionate about helping children and young people develop independence, confidence, and essential life skillsIf you have experience supporting pupils with autism, learning difficulties, or other special educational needs-or you have strong transferable skills and a genuine commitment to inclusive, learner-centred practice-you are strongly encouraged to apply.Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)Right to work in the UKTo apply, please submit your CV.
