Band 6 Specialist Clinical Physiologist Closing date: 9 December 2025 An exciting opportunity for a full‑time Band 6 Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiology) in a dynamic and busy department at the regional Neuroscience Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The ideal candidate will support Neurophysiology services at all UHB sites, have experience in specialised techniques (training will be provided), and be able to work flexible hours. You will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of advanced and specialised diagnostic procedures in Neurophysiology. The role requires enthusiasm, flexibility, and excellent communication skills to manage diverse patients and complex information. Key responsibilities include: Prepare the environment for recording of neurophysiological procedures. Prepare patients for routine EEG recording in a dedicated environment and on wards, including head measurement, electrode application, and factual reporting. Perform routine, sleep, ward, intensive care, and 24‑hour EEGs independently. Setup and download data from 24‑hour EEG monitors and monitor electrode function and record quality. Perform routine evoked potential (EP) tests, including complex investigations, independently. Prepare patients for EP tests, Carpal Tunnel Screening (CTS) and Electromyography (EMG) clinics. Record routine and sleep EEGs on cooperative adults according to prescribed protocol, including annotation. Perform EEG recording on wards, HDU, and ICU; scanning ambulatory‑EEG under supervision. Perform routine EPs. Perform CTS and record findings, recognising need for additional testing by senior or consultant staff. Assist consultants in EMG clinics and scribe EMG findings. Apply agreed evocative techniques. Remove electrodes from patients and clean the application area as required. Wash and/or sterilise electrodes/equipment following agreed protocols. Additional duties: Participate in on‑call service. Work away from the main site when required. Join a team supported by five consultants and senior physiologists, with career development and access to higher education. Qualifications BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or equivalent formal specialist training plus additional postgraduate diploma or equivalent knowledge. Current registration with RCCP / HCPC. Evidence of CPD. Experience Experience in neurophysiology and performing a full range of complex investigations in all modalities. Experience in performing EEG and EP. Experience in teaching/training of others. Experience in handling investigation requests and determining priority. Knowledge of a full range of physiology procedures. Knowledge of IT systems and keyboard skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel). Experience of Video Telemetry. Additional Criteria Ability to analyse data and produce high‑quality, accurate technical reports. Excellent communication with patients, relatives, and staff at all levels. Capability to perform a wide range of neurophysiological investigations. Work autonomously, coordinate, plan and prioritise. Good IT skills, ability to analyse data, produce Word documents. Interpret specialist investigation results and patient conditions. Perform complex hand‑to‑eye coordination tasks such as electrode placement and instrumentation dexterity. Work extended hours as required or flexible hours depending on service needs (monitoring, EEG, PSG). Take part in on‑call rota. Travel across UHB sites as required.
