Position and terms Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in St Johns Hospital. This post is based at St John’s Hospital and is an integral part of the general adult psychiatry service for Edinburgh and the Lothians, with services delivered by the four Lothian-wide Health and Social Care Partnerships and Royal Edinburgh and Associated Services (REAS). This advert is for 1-year fixed term working in mental health in West Lothian (10 Sessions: 50% clinical; 50% undergraduate). The Advanced Clinical Fellow role offers a unique combination of opportunities in clinical experience, teaching, professional development and educational quality improvement within Lothian in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh. The post is split 50:50 between clinical work and medical education. The role would be ideal for candidates who are looking to spend a year between core training and specialty training to develop their knowledge and skills. The post holder will join a very well-established department with a high degree of support from colleagues including consultants, speciality doctors, higher trainees and resident doctors. Context and scope NHS Lothian is the largest educational partner to the University of Edinburgh medical school and the South-East Scotland regional office of the Scotland Deanery; we host 800 clinical students and employ 1500 doctors in training programmes. NHS Lothian’s psychiatric services are based in Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian and West Lothian. Our main site is the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, which provides psychiatric and mental health services, including treatment for learning disabilities and dementia, and a wide range of specialist services. The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
