Infrastructure Support Engineer

Closing date: 04 January 2026 Exciting things are happening within Digital Services at Derbyshire County Council and we’re looking for an Infrastructure Support Engineer to join our team. A major review of our organisation and strategies has been completed, and we have invested in new tools to support a comprehensive and innovative Digital Services transformation programme, to support the delivery of key services to the residents and communities of Derbyshire. This role will be pivotal in helping us deliver our transformation programme, as a key post within the Digital Services, Technical Services, Operations Team function, providing a technical lead across services. This includes supporting the Council’s New Ways of Working programme and ensuring that the Council’s services are fit for purpose. The primary duties will include the support, maintenance, and configuration of the Council’s Digital Services, working closely with service owners and service users to identify and develop solutions for problems and carry out 3rd line support and maintenance activities. The role requires technical awareness and knowledge of the following areas: Practitioner knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems in a virtualised environment Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 support experience (Email, Teams, SharePoint) Working knowledge of TCP/IP networks Working knowledge of supporting activities for GPO/AD/MDM/DNS Working knowledge of Cloud Platforms; desirable Microsoft Azure Scripting knowledge, e.g. PowerShell Knowledge of monitoring & tooling solutions Knowledge of security solutions Linux experience desirable but not essential Ability to own complex problems and see them to resolution Polite, confident, and effective communicator Working in local government is a highly satisfying and rewarding experience in so many ways, and you will enjoy an excellent range of benefits at Derbyshire County Council.
