Laboratory Technical Officer The closing date is 14 December 2025 The Department of Medical Biochemistry, Immunology & Toxicology are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated Laboratory Technical Officer (Band 3) to join our team of laboratory staff. The vacancy is within our metabolic section. The Medical Biochemistry Immunology & Toxicology Laboratories provide a diagnostic service for Cardiff and the Vale patients and beyond. Support will be provided to individuals to develop skills and knowledge of the appropriate sections of the laboratory. Main duties of the job The purpose of the role is to assist Scientific staff within the Departments of Medical Biochemistry, & Immunology to provide a quality analytical service, while working as part of a team undertaking analysis of biological samples. This will include: Preparation and analysis of samples of biological samples Basic instrument maintenance and quality checking of processes Clerical support to the laboratory staff. The duties are wide ranging including technical clinical and general administration duties under both direct and indirect supervision by Biomedical Scientist - which may be cross site. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. Person Specification Special Knowledge Knowledge of the Welsh LIMS Knowledge of a hospital LIMS Experience Previous experience in a hospital laboratory environment including sample preparation/handling environments History of team working Previous laboratory medicine experience Qualification NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a science related subject HNC in Med Lab Sciences or an Applied Biological Science Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
