OverviewServing as the sole Lead Engineering Manager for Websites & Apps at Booker, you will be fully accountable for driving the engineering vision, execution, and success of our digital platforms. This role is key to delivering a world-class online shopping experience for our customers across web and mobile channels. You will lead a team responsible for developing secure, scalable, and customer-centric digital solutions that enhance satisfaction and contribute to business profitability. As a Lead Engineering Manager within the Online team at Booker, you will be managing the team building and developing websites and apps.The Online Shopping team is responsible for the end-to-end customer experience across the Wholesale Booker.co.uk website and mobile app, along with the supporting digital infrastructure. Booker.co.uk is the fastest-growing online wholesale website in the UK, currently generating £3.5 billion, with projections to exceed £4 billion within the next two years. The site attracts approximately 3 million users, number expected to grow in line with increasing demand and sales performance.ResponsibilitiesOwn the end-to-end development and delivery for Booker’s websites and mobile applications (iOS and Android).Lead and manage engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.Oversee the end-to-end delivery of technical solutions, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.Translate product requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions, working closely with Product Managers.Drive technical excellence by promoting best practices in software development, architecture, and testing.Manage team capacity, resources, and priorities, ensuring effective planning and workload distribution.Mentor and develop team, supporting career growth, performance management, and team engagement.Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across product design and operations to align technical solutions with business objectives.QualificationsProven experience as an engineering manager, preferably in e-commerce or digital retail platforms.A passion for creating simple, innovative, and customer-first digital experiences.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.Knowledge in the use of tools and techniques for prioritisation, managing dependencies, performance & testing.Experience and understanding of agile techniques to deliver exemplar products.Passion to get the right stuff delivered.Create a positive and supportive culture in your team and 3rd party developers.A strong people manager, with excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills.About BookerBooker is the UK's leading food & drink wholesaler.
