Located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, the site offers a calm, structured environment designed to support young people in transition, helping them to re-engage with learning and move successfully back to their mainstream or next placement. Pupils typically present with complex needs, including social, emotional, communication and interaction difficulties (SECID), and often join the unit at a point when their needs are disrupting standard classroom provision. Staff work with urgency, care and precision to restore stability, embed positive routines and support reintegration into mainstream or specialist pathways. This role could be an excellent step up for a highly experienced member of school support staff or a new challenge for a trained teacher seeking to broaden their impact beyond the classroom. Role Overview The Support Manager will play a key role in the operational leadership of the provision, ensuring it continues to deliver high-quality, consistent support for pupils with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs. Working closely with the Team Leader, the post-holder will implement behavioural and therapeutic interventions, coordinate staff practice, and maintain strong communication with pupils, colleagues and external professionals. This is a high-impact position suited to an individual with strong leadership capability, expertise in behaviour management, and a genuine commitment to improving the life chances of young people who have experienced disruption to their education. Key Responsibilities Oversee the behaviour, engagement and welfare of pupils placed in the unit as temporary alternative provision. Assist the Team Leader in implementing bespoke behavioural and therapeutic interventions. Ensure consistent application of communication systems, routines and expectations across the setting. Maintain positive, professional contact with external agencies, families and relevant stakeholders. Support the evaluation of pupil progress and contribute to decisions regarding reintegration or onward placements. Promote a safe, inclusive, structured environment that enables re-engagement with learning and reduces risk of exclusion. Lead and mentor staff, modelling best practice in behaviour support and facilitating team coherence. Person Specification Significant experience working with young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs, ideally in an alternative provision or specialist educational setting. Proven leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to motivate and support a team under challenging circumstances. Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with pupils, families, external professionals and internal staff.
