Overview We are looking for a Band 5 or Band 6 nurse to join our dedicated Substance Misuse Team in a development role within the speciality of Substance Misuse in a prison setting. The healthcare team promotes health and wellbeing to prisoners and uses strategies to instil hope for future resettlement. We deliver Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy and Clinical Substance Misuse within an integrated model to improve wellbeing and support outcomes. Responsibilities Provide high quality primary care services and specialist interventions for offenders with substance misuse and related physical health issues at HMP Elmley. Deliver clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service and demonstrate robust expert clinical skills. Work closely with the Substance Misuse Clinical Lead and Practice Development Nurse to guide professional development and support the journey to Band 6. Participate in a structured progression pathway, including preceptorship and a Personal Development Plan (PDP). Prepare a portfolio documenting evidence of competencies in line with the NHS England and RCN framework for SMS nurses. Maintain and update the Personal Development Review (PDR) and Personal Development Plan (PDP) annually, with frequent reviews during preceptorship. Participate in National Security Vetting as required for working in a prison setting. Qualifications & Requirements Registered Band 5 or Band 6 nurse with suitable post‑qualification experience. Willingness to undertake National Security Vetting and to provide proof of right to work, identifiable photographic ID, proof of address and, if applicable, a Police Certificate or overseas good conduct certificate. Ability to provide a five‑year address history; for non‑UK passport holders with less than five years UK history, a Police Certificate in English is required. Non‑UK passport holders must have correct right‑to‑work documentation and a Home Office Share code. No sponsorship for this position. Experience working with substance‑misuse patients is desirable for Band 6 progression but not mandatory for Band 5. Benefits Full NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) employment package including pension.
