Distributed Database Platform Engineer Location: Glasgow (2-3 days onsite) Duration: 12 months Rate: circa £50 per hour (PAYE) / £450 umbrella equivalent Our FS client is looking for an exceptional Distributed Database Platform Engineer to join their enterprise data infrastructure team and help operate, scale, and modernize a global deployment of Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and Greenplum platforms supporting more than 10,000+ distributed clusters. If you’re passionate about automation, performance engineering, and next‑generation data platforms, this role offers the scale, complexity, and impact you’re looking for. In this role, you will design and manage large‑scale distributed database systems, architect hybrid and multi‑cloud deployments across AWS and Azure, and build automation frameworks that enable self‑healing, auto‑scaling, and intelligent monitoring. You’ll collaborate closely with data engineering, platform, and application teams to ensure world‑class availability, security, and performance. You will also drive modernization initiatives, including cloud‑native adoption, serverless architectures, Snowflake optimization, and integration of emerging AI / ML capabilities. Your expertise will help shape platform governance, data lifecycle management, and scalable operational practices across the organisation. Key Skills & Experience Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Snowflake administration, performance tuning, and cluster optimisation Proven experience operating large‑scale distributed systems (100K+ clusters preferred) Strong automation and scripting skills (Python, Terraform, Ansible) Experience with IaC, CI / CD and cloud‑native architectures in AWS / Azure Knowledge of Snowflake design patterns, migration workflows and cost optimisation Experience with geo‑redundant databases using Patroni, GoldenGate or similar tools Strong understanding of data governance, security, access controls and compliance frameworks Excellent communication, problem‑solving and cross‑team collaboration skills If you’re driven by scale, innovation and engineering excellence, we’d love to hear from you.
