OverviewSocial Media Officer – Birkbeck, University of London. We are seeking a creative and strategic Social Media Officer to join our Marketing and External Relations team. This role shapes and delivers our social media presence to attract prospective students and strengthen our reputation among diverse audiences.Salary range £34,827 rising to £38,981 per year. Contract type: Open ended. Mode: Full time. Grade 5. Closing Date: 07/12/2025. Ref No: 2293.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement a social media plan to support student recruitment and brand build.Create compelling content (video, images, infographics) tailored to different platforms and audiences.Monitor and respond to comments and queries across channels, ensuring timely and accurate engagement.Analyse performance data and produce monthly reports to inform strategy.Recruit and manage student ambassadors, providing training and creative direction.Stay ahead of social media trends and apply insights to enhance engagement.Qualifications and requirementsExtensive experience managing social media for a large organisation.Strong creative skills in video production, photography, and design using tools like Canva, CapCut, and Adobe.Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and analytics tools.Ability to develop and implement social media strategies that drive engagement and deliver measurable results.Knowledge of the higher education sector and student recruitment cycles is desirable.This opportunity would build on experience as a Social Media Officer, Social Media Assistant, Social Media Executive, Marketing Officer, or Marketing Assistant.If this sounds like the role for you, join us at a leading London University with a unique mission for widening participation.Salary and benefits£34,827 rising to £38,981 per year, Grade 5 on the College's London Pay Scale, which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.Benefits include: a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements, generous benefits in the HE sector, and being located in the heart of Bloomsbury, Euston, London.ContractPermanent, open-ended contract.
