Overview Borders General Hospital is recruiting for Clinical Development Fellows (CDFs) to start ASAP. The hospital is located 30 miles south of Edinburgh with access to outdoor activities and rail links to Scotland’s capital. The team is dynamic and forward-thinking, with a focus on open and honest culture and supporting the development of clinicians for future careers in Emergency Medicine and other specialties. The Borders General Hospital sees over 33,000 patients a year and has 330 inpatient beds with access to General Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, General Surgery and Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology and Dermatology. It is a Trauma Unit feeding into the Major Trauma Centre located in ERI. Role and duties The post is for Senior Clinical Development Fellows (CDFs). Successful candidates will be contracted for 48 hours per week, comprising 40 clinical hours and 8 hours of protected development time. Part-time or full-time arrangements will be considered, with the prospect of Extras Programme Time subject to mutual agreement. The department is staffed with an enthusiastic and progressive team committed to supporting recruits in developing skills that will benefit their future careers. Robust Emergency Medicine experience—assessing unfiltered patients, performing procedures, and managing uncertainty in medical decision-making—is considered essential and will be useful across specialties. Qualifications and requirements We are looking for candidates who are a post FY2 doctor with Emergency Medicine experience of at least 1 year and are seeking to gain experience in a District General Hospital ED. This role offers protected time to refine your CV for specialty training applications and to consolidate clinical exposure to a wide range of presentations and ages. Terms and conditions Salary: The full-time salary per week is £1,801.34 including out-of-hours allowance (FY3, ST1 or ST2 level) or £1,983.99 including out-of-hours allowance (ST3+ level). Full-time / part-time and job share applicants are welcome (with mutual agreement on Extras Programme Time). Why work for us?
