Overview A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled, self‑motivated, experienced band 6 midwife to work as an Infant Feeding Midwife within a small, friendly maternity team. The role promotes Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards by teaching, supporting and mentoring staff, supporting the Infant Feeding Lead, preparing for accreditation visits and working towards BFI Gold accreditation. Responsibilities Support new staff and midwifery students to develop clinical infant feeding skills in line with BFI care standards. Run training sessions for maternity staff and the multidisciplinary team. Carry out practical skills reviews in infant feeding and build high‑level care skills. Participate in the provision of breastfeeding workshops for expectant parents. Support staff to develop care plans for complex clinical cases. Carry out regular audits to monitor compliance with BFI standards of care and report findings. Use audit results and evidence to shape training and resources for staff and parents. Assist in writing and implementing guidelines and initiatives relevant to infant feeding. Support parents in the infant feeding clinic with complex situations. Deputise in meetings at local and regional levels as required. Effectively manage time to ensure a balance between audit, clinical and administrative duties. Promote and maintain a departmental culture that encourages open, honest professional decision‑making and problem‑solving. Actively participate in infant feeding meetings within maternity services and influence positive attitudes within teams. Act as a source of expert clinical and professional advice on infant feeding, undertake clinical audit and implement initiatives to improve breastfeeding initiation and maintenance rates. Provide support and act as a resource to staff assisting new mothers on postnatal wards, ensuring compliance with the DoH and Baby Friendly Initiative. Participate in the development of relevant care pathways and guidelines within the maternity service. Qualifications Band 6 midwife with experience in infant feeding and the Baby Friendly Initiative; excellent clinical, interpersonal and organisational skills; motivated, flexible and positive about breastfeeding and further developing knowledge and skills. #J-18808-Ljbffr
