With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways including 1618 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.The RoleWe are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team at Newham College London. In this role, you will work alongside teaching and support staff to provide high-quality, person-centred support to learners with a range of learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities. Your focus will be on promoting independence, enabling access to learning, and ensuring full inclusion within the college community across various curriculum areas and campuses.Full-Time Fixed-Term Positions (Term Time Only, until July 2026)Key ResponsibilitiesProvide 1:1 and small-group learning support within classrooms, workshops, and community-based sessions under the direction of ALS Tutors and teaching staff.Use creative strategies to empower learners, promote independence, and encourage aspirational attitudes towards learning.Support learners with behaviour management, emotional regulation, and social development.Deliver personal care support where required, including toileting, mobility assistance, and medication administration in line with college policy.Assist with assessments, tests, and examinations under formal conditions.Record learner progress, support delivered, and contribute to reviews as directed by the ALS team.Supervise students during educational visits, break times, and transitions, ensuring safety and inclusion at all times.Work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure effective support for learners with SEND.Ideal CandidateMinimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent).Experience of supporting learners with SEND in an educational or care setting.Understanding of a range of learning difficulties, disabilities, or additional needs.Ability to manage challenging behaviour with resilience and professionalism.Willingness and capability to undertake personal care tasks, including the use of mobility equipment such as hoists.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with learners and colleagues.Ability to maintain accurate records and follow procedures.Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to promoting student welfare.Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable AdultsIn line with Keeping Children Safe in Education All employment offers are subject employment checks.
