Perinatal Mortality and Morbidity (PMRT) Lead Midwife (NUH) Join to apply for the Perinatal Mortality and Morbidity (PMRT) Lead Midwife (NUH) role at NHS. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife to join the Women’s Health Safety Team as Lead PMRT (Perinatal Mortality Review Tool) Midwife at Newham University Hospital (NUH). MBRRACE‑PMRT is a national tool designed to help understand why stillbirths and neonatal deaths occur and to prevent future deaths from happening. As Lead PMRT Midwife, you will hold responsibility for ensuring that the MBRRACE Perinatal Mortality Review Tool is updated for NUH maternity services in line with standards set by MBRRACE, NHS Resolution, the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts, the Maternity Incentive Scheme, and the National Bereavement Care Pathway. To do this you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team within the Women’s Health Division, maintain close working relationships with bereavement midwives, and liaise with external agencies such as other NHS trusts and the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch. You will also seek patient feedback to ensure families’ voices are heard and utilised within case reviews, in line with learning from the Ockenden report. Main duties of the job Lead our approach to excellence in preventing and reducing perinatal mortality and morbidity within maternity and referral to external organisations. Lead the perinatal mortality and morbidity service to provide specialist, expert advice and education to support our clinical teams to deliver safe and compassionate care. Draw themes and trends from PMRT reports, MBRRACE and MNSI findings and develop action plans. Conduct gap analysis and benchmark our service against national reports. Lead on implementation of actions and recommendations from PMRT reports, MBRRACE and MNSI findings, working in partnership with our site Associate Directors of Midwifery and Director of Midwifery to sustain and embed improvements. Ensure the actions taken and improvements are effective by conducting regular audits. Support the bereavement team with on‑call requirement. Midwifery specialist knowledge of perinatal morbidity and mortality standards in an acute maternity setting. Degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience. Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively. Capable of working with clinical and non‑clinical staff at all levels, displaying excellent customer‑service skills. Desirable skills: Ability to negotiate and influence with all levels of the organisation and different staff groups. Essential experience: Evidence of specialist experience of perinatal mortality and morbidity and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Evidence of leading and managing a team or clinical service. Developing and delivering education and training courses to all disciplines. Leading practice development and experience in change management to demonstrate learning from incidents and/or service failure. Desirable experience: Trust Board and/or Board sub‑committee presentations and assurance through analysis of data and translation into practice improvements. Experience in team management. Experience in leading and managing projects. Experience of guideline and policy development.
