Safeguarding Specialist Advisor The closing date is 16 December 2025 The focus of the work of the post holder will be Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT), services within East Sussex. The Safeguarding Specialist Advisor will have a key role in promoting good professional practice and providing all elements of the Safeguarding Agenda. Under the guidance of the Named Nurses for Safeguarding Children, the post holder will take the lead in providing safeguarding supervision for the East Sussex services (School Health, sexual health and children’s integrated therapies), training, specialist advice and support related to safeguarding children KCHFT wide. The post holder contributes to developing the skills of the frontline practitioners, particularly in relation to assessment of risk. Main duties of the job The Safeguarding Service provides advice and support to KCHFT staff on all matters relating to safeguarding children and adults. The Service facilitates supervision, consultations and training, as well as assurance that KCHFT operates to required safeguarding standards. KCHFT Safeguarding service also works closely with partner agencies to coordinate processes for safeguarding. Person Specification Qualifications Registered General Nurse, Registered Children’s Nurse, Registered Midwife, Mental Health Nurse, Specialist Community Practitioner, Learning Disability Nurse (Children) Experience Experience of working with partner agencies in relation to safeguarding children. Experience of managing caseloads that contain vulnerable children, children in need of protection. Experience of facilitating and delivering training. Experience of providing safeguarding supervision. Experience of participating/undertaking audits. Knowledge Advanced level of understanding of key government legislation and current guidance, relevant to safeguarding children and adults. Knowledge of Multi‑Agency Risk Assessment Conferences in relation to Domestic Abuse. Knowledge and understanding of MCA Legislation. Demonstrates a clear understanding of child abuse and neglect and the impact for children and families/carers. Knowledge of normal child development. Knowledge of application of NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice. Knowledge of frameworks in respect of safeguarding supervision. Skills & Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to recognise and manage challenging situations. Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and manage time effectively. Must be able to travel around KCHFT area in a timely manner. Personal Attributes Ability to work to agreed deadlines. Ability to work within a team. Ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations. Ability to Manage Able to support the implementation of local and national agenda's for health under the guidance of the service lead. Ability to prioritise care delivery in a professional manner, taking into account Trust policies and procedures. Ability to manage own time effectively.
