Senior Environmental Health Officer – Croydon Council Allying your expertise in environmental health with a dynamic team, you will help Croydon Council achieve its vision of a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all residents and visitors. Salary range: £50,085 – £52,194 p.a. plus fantastic benefits. Contract: Permanent / Fixed Term / Secondment. Hours of work: 36 hours per week. Location: Croydon. Key Responsibilities Supervise and develop a small team of up to 6 officers and assistants. Lead inspections of private rented properties, identifying hazards and ensuring landlords comply with legal duties. Take enforcement action, including prosecutions and financial penalties, against non‑compliant landlords and agents. Oversee discretionary licensing of HMOs and private rented homes. Act as the lead officer in a specialist area such as fire safety, pest control, tall buildings, or energy efficiency. Contribute to policy, projects and service development. Qualifications and Experience A recognised Environmental Health qualification (REnvH or equivalent) and experience in housing or public health enforcement. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or willingness to achieve it. Strong knowledge of housing, public health and enforcement legislation. Experience supervising staff, motivating teams and managing performance. Confidence in handling complex enforcement cases, preparing legal files, and representing the Council in court or tribunals.
