Programme Leader – Horticulture Location: Northumberland | Salary: £30,168 to £39,338 per annum | Post Type: Full Time | Contract Type: Permanent | Closing Date: 23.59 hrs GMT on Friday 19 December 2025 | Reference: 0792-25-R About the College Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi‑million, state‑of‑the‑art new campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The College offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning technical and vocational further and higher education, large apprenticeship provision, and dedicated centres for young people with SEND. It will have two main campuses – Ashington and Ponteland – plus several satellite delivery centres across the region. The new Department for Education‑backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park will feature a national‑trailblazer architectural design and operation, representing a £52 million+ investment on top of recent £14 million injections into new facilities at existing sites. You will demonstrate professionalism, innovation, and a genuine passion for horticultural education and sustainability. About the Role This full‑time position is based at our land‑based college at Kirkley Hall, home to extensive grounds and a historic walled garden, cared for in partnership with the college’s estates department. As Programme Leader for Horticulture you will lead and deliver engaging programmes across Level 2 and Level 3 Technical qualifications, as well as introductory Entry and Level 1 courses that inspire learners to explore horticulture. You will ensure the delivery of high‑quality, industry‑relevant teaching and learning, support student progress and wellbeing, and collaborate with colleagues and employers to enrich the curriculum. Role Responsibilities Plan, prepare and deliver high‑quality, sequenced learning through career‑focused schemes of learning. Provide an excellent experience to students through exemplary learning, teaching and assessment standards. Teach students to high standards using appropriate and varied student‑centred approaches, embracing learning technologies to enhance the student experience. Actively engage in reflective practice and contribute to the wider professional development programme. Liaise effectively with the wider support team to ensure appropriate and high‑quality academic support is provided as required. Participate in college recruitment and marketing events where required. Qualifications Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent (or willingness to complete this). L3 qualification in Horticulture. Level 2 Mathematics. Level 2 English Language. Essential Skills & Experience Experience of working in horticulture. Desirable Skills & Experience (Optional) Experience of taking ownership of a study programme. Experience of planning and delivery of inclusive learning sessions. Experience of keeping records of student progress against achievements. Experience of managing a programme of study.
