Main duties of the job We invite candidates who are looking to gain tertiary level training in the diagnosis and management of all specialised glaucoma conditions as well as the opportunity to undertake cataract surgery to apply for our Glaucoma senior fellowship. With over 120,000 outpatient visits, 6,000 inpatient cases, and 24,000 eye casualty attendances annually, you’ll gain exposure to a diverse and complex patient population. Our Unit features a state‑of‑the‑art outpatient department and modern operating theatres, equipped with the latest technology. The Glaucoma Team is a vibrant, innovative group comprising 4 Consultants, 3 Specialist Doctors, 2 Specialty Doctors, Fellows and Specialist Nurses, delivering both traditional glaucoma surgery and MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery). Job responsibilities This post is an excellent opportunity for a clinician to develop clinical experience in glaucoma in a progressive NHS trust committed to excellence in patient care. As a senior specialty fellow, you will: Provide advice to ophthalmology colleagues regarding glaucoma cases. Participate in the management of glaucoma emergencies as they arise. Contribute to glaucoma teaching for postgraduates, undergraduates and non‑medical staff. Participate in the on‑call rota. Attend ward/casualty referrals from both the Eye Unit and the General Hospital. Additional information Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for trust‑appointed (non‑training fellow doctors and dentists). Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training‑grade doctors, and a named educational supervisor will be assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for CPD is highly supported and encouraged by the trust, with options available for study leave. All licensed doctors must meet GMC requirements for revalidation and will receive an annual appraisal to support the process. Grades for trust‑appointed (non‑training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary: MT05 £73,992. Travel expenses will not be paid for attending the interview. GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or be able to demonstrate eligibility.
