Southampton, United Kingdom University of Southampton Full time

Research Fellow in Data‑Driven Fluid Mechanics Research Fellow in Data‑Driven Fluid Mechanics at the University of Southampton. The University of Southampton, supported by UKRI funding until 30/09/2027, seeks a full‑time researcher to work on data assimilation for turbulent flows. Responsibilities You will work under the supervision of Prof. Christina Vanderwel on the project “Simulating air pollution in the lab,” applying novel data‑assimilation techniques to reconstruct wind patterns and air pollution in urban areas. You will use discrete adjoint libraries in OpenFOAM to improve turbulence modelling of environmental flows. Opportunities to contribute to other projects in experimental fluid mechanics—turbulent boundary layers, flow control, atmospheric flows, and diagnostics development—will also be available. Qualifications PhD or equivalent qualifications and experience in data‑driven fluid mechanics and turbulence. Please contact Dr. Christina Vanderwel (C.M.Vanderwel@soton.ac.uk) for further details. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Equality, diversity and inclusion are central to the ethos of the School of Engineering. We particularly encourage women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic, LGBT and disabled applicants to apply.
