We are looking for a highly motivated individual with well‑developed communication and organisational skills to join the oral health promotion team in County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. There is an exciting opportunity to be actively involved with an oral health improvement programme giving children the best start in life and preventing ill health. The role involves overseeing the expansion and coordinating delivery of the national tooth‑brushing programme funded by local government within designated nurseries and schools across County Durham, and identifying settings where tooth decay is prevalent. The candidate will facilitate multi‑agency working to ensure appropriate community‑based oral health needs assessments take place and deliver oral health promotion strategies to embed oral health into all aspects of healthcare delivery. Knowledge of developing and implementing evidence‑based health education programmes is essential. Main duties of the job Be expected to travel and work from multiple settings across County Durham. Prepare data reports to feedback to the local authority which has governance and oversight of the expansion of the tooth‑brushing programme. Plan, implement, deliver and evaluate oral health promotion programmes as identified by NHS England Commissioners and the Local Authorities, and ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place to measure their effectiveness. Ensure effective marketing and communication systems are embedded in the service to aid engagement with partner organisations. Develop and deliver oral health programmes as specified in the Oral Health promotion Strategy, managed by the Director of Public Health and Oral Health Promotion Lead. Work independently carrying out tasks efficiently within a busy environment. Build effective relationships with schools/nurseries, promoting the benefits of the scheme, particularly to schools who may not be as keen to participate. Job responsibilities Co‑ordination of the delivery of targeted oral health promotion in line with the local Durham County Council Oral Health promotion Strategy. Co‑ordination of the programme within agreed timescales and milestones to define and deliver objectives specific to the needs of the local population. Delivery of oral health education to a wide range of target groups. Provide specialised advice and work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. Work as part of a county‑wide team of Oral Health Promotion Advisors. Create awareness of the importance of good oral health and adoption of a healthy lifestyle. Influence people’s attitudes and motivate positive behavioural change. Implement a communication plan alongside the expansion to support staff and settings, and inform and raise awareness of the importance of oral health to the public. Qualifications National B‑Tech Diploma in Dental Nursing Registration status as Dental Nurse (compulsory with GDC since October 2004) National Certificate in Oral Health Promotion / Certificate in Health Promotion City and Guilds 730 Further Adult Education Teaching Certificate Thorough knowledge of current Oral Health related initiatives, local epidemiology Minimum of 4 GCSEs Excellent communication and networking skills Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent organisational skills Skilled in delivering presentations to a variety of audiences Good knowledge of using Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook; supporting IT skills. UK full driving licence and car. Knowledge of safeguarding children & adults training Special Requirements Report writing for formal boards within the governance of the programme and data collection are essential. Special Skills & Knowledge Work with communications teams on all communications, advice campaigns and information leaflets. Co‑ordinate and deliver the train‑the‑trainer model. Evidence of leadership training and experience. Statutory Registration GDC Registration. NMC registration. Experience Ability to work effectively with people as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. Ability to problem‑solve and find solutions to the barriers that services may have.
