Job Summary Little Tots Nursery are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual who is keen to learn, able to work as part of a team but also self‑motivated and able to complete assignments to a high standard. The candidate must have a caring nature and be able to make learning fun for the children in their care. The candidate will be enrolled onto a workplace apprenticeship programme and will work towards Level 2 and/or Level 3. The candidate must also have a minimum of GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or the equivalent; this can be completed alongside the childcare qualification if necessary. Purpose of post To become a member of a team, share existing knowledge and seek support from the Lead Practitioner and other team members to fully understand roles and responsibilities. To share a common purpose and work together to achieve set outcomes. To have a shared vision within a team, listen to thoughts and opinions, have a trusting relationship and work in partnership with all practitioners to offer quality care to all children and their families, and to consider equality and diversity at all times. To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children placed within the setting, including safeguarding and well‑being, so that they reach their potential. To follow legislation within "Every Child Matters" and the United Convention on the Rights of a Child (UCRC); practitioners should ensure children can express their own views in all matters that affect them. To offer support, kindness and consideration to other practitioners and always be ready to assist a colleague. To ensure rotas and routines are followed and to make informed changes if necessary in the best interest of the children. Key areas Build positive relationships with children and their families. Participate in effective teamwork. Liaise with outside agencies to ensure quality care for all children. Participate in team duties to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the setting and all its provisions. Responsible to Nursery Manager, Assistant Manager, Early Years Lead Practitioners Duties will include 1. Unique Child Practitioners must be aware of each child’s uniqueness and ensure individual needs are met. They will follow and understand the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory and developmental matters, offer support and quality teaching, and be involved in the planning and assessment cycle. This includes preparing online learning journeys, documenting observations, communicating with families, and using assessments to inform planning. Management will support the graduated response for children needing early support, and practitioners will create and deliver early support plans when needed and work alongside families and outside agencies. 2. Health & Safety All practitioners should know Ofsted’s staff/child ratios and adhere to them. Children must be supervised at all times. Practitioners must carry out risk assessments on new provisions and record accidents, incidents, injuries, and medication details in the required format, with management and parents keeping copies and sign‑off. They should promote cleanliness and personal hygiene, assist with toileting and potty training, and maintain compliance with the Operational Plan. 3. Safeguarding Practitioners must read and adhere to the setting’s policies and procedures, participate in their development, and safeguard children by protecting them from maltreatment and ensuring their welfare. They must build safe, secure relationships, be positive role models, and report abuse or welfare concerns per the Operational Plan. Practitioners must have a valid DBS within three years and stay aware of child exploitation, radicalisation, and confidentiality. Attendance must be monitored and absences reported to management. 4. Positive Relationships Practitioners will build positive relationships with children and families, supporting learning journeys and understanding the key person system. They will encourage trusting relationships among peers, liaise with outside agencies (e.g., SENCO, Children’s Services, SALT, health visitors), and mentor apprentices and students. 5. Enabling Environments Practitioners must create enriching learning environments that are stimulating and follow children’s interests. They will understand the importance of play, outdoor activities, and routines, ensuring all children receive equal opportunities for outdoor experiences and transitions that feel safe and secure. Additional duties Wear Tiny Treasures uniform (red tunic with logo and black trousers). Footwear must be suitable and black at all times. Practitioners will undertake certain domestic tasks such as snack preparation, equipment cleaning, staff meetings, appraisals, and supervision. They must be flexible, adaptable, and available for additional duties as directed by management, ensuring consistent quality of care. Additional employment must be reported and not affect nursery opening hours. Qualities and experience required Effective teamwork; previous childcare experience preferred but not essential.
