This is an exciting time to join us as we reshape our fleet strategy to meet the demands of a modern, sustainable city Birmingham City Council is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to lead its Fleet, Plant & Assets service within the Street Scene Division. This is a pivotal role responsible for shaping and delivering a sustainable fleet strategy that supports the Council’s operational and environmental goals. What You’ll Do Provide Strategic Leadership for the Fleet & Transport dept Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet strategy covering capital acquisition, asset management, and maintenance. Ensure compliance with traffic regulations and maintain the Council’s operator’s license. Lead strategic fleet procurement aligned with long-term sustainability goals. Manage capital budgets for fleet replacement and explore carbon reduction and sustainable fuel solutions. Establish performance metrics to evaluate procurement effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Oversee fleet maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and suppliers. Monitor and manage fleet-related budgets, ensuring cost-effective and efficient operations. Budget Holder for fleet department Work closely with wider BCC fleet What You’ll Need Exceptional Communication skills at all levels of a complex organisation Experience of working in Dynamic organisations Degree or professional certification in fleet management, logistics, or a related field. Extensive experience in fleet and asset operations, including procurement and compliance. Proven track record in budget management and strategic planning. Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage complex projects and navigate regulatory frameworks. Commitment to sustainability and innovation in fleet management.
