Job Summary Whittington Health has recently improved its emergency department performance and is working closely with NHS, local authorities, UCLH and the Provider Alliance to achieve key targets and expand maternity services. The Chief Medical Officer will lead medical workforce strategy and quality of patient care, collaborating with nursing and operational leaders. Main duties The Chief Medical Officer is an executive member of the Board of Directors and a key contributor to the Trust’s clinical and organisational strategy. Responsibilities include: Be a member of the Board of Directors and carry out all statutory responsibilities as an executive Director of the Trust. Ensure the organisation complies with Responsible Officer regulations, with appropriate quality assurance and reporting. Be the Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs and support corporate development through key strategic areas. Take responsibility with other Directors for the quality of service and care provided to patients. Develop and implement a strategy for medical workforce planning. Horizon‑scan to identify new significant clinical risks and develop mitigations. Promote the Trust’s high‑quality work at regional and national levels. Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer to support divisional work. Devise the clinical strategy for the Trust. Lead service and clinical policy development, especially in relation to NICE initiatives. Advise on medical staffing in line with statutory requirements and national/local policy. Manage the conduct, capability and competence of medical staff through agreed procedures. Monitor patient care quality against national and local indicators and drive improvements. Establish supportive relationships with GPs, CCGs, local clinical network leads, education commissioners, London Clinical Senate and UCL Partners. Ensure ongoing review of consultant job plans with Divisional Clinical Directors, so duties are fit for purpose and care is optimised.
