Site Supervisor | Full time | Waste Management HWRC | Burnley, Lancashire Salary £25,989 – £28,142 per annum | 40 hours per week | Permanent, Full time position. Qualifications: Relevant certificates of competence or equivalent (e.g., Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) Level 4, Occupational Certificate of Competence (OCC), First Aid at Work) or demonstrable ability to achieve such competence within a reasonable timescale. Essential Requirements: The ability to interpret and implement systems, policies or procedures, follow pre‑determined instructions and record and report information accurately. The ability to issue accurate instructions to other staff and supervise the delivery of those instructions. The ability to lead by example. Good communication skills and a commitment to provide high levels of customer service. A commitment to the recycling and re‑use of waste. A commitment to health and safety. Role Context: The Site Supervisor (HWRC) reports directly to the Assistant Operations Manager and receives day‑to‑day direction from the Site Manager(s). The role involves direct supervision of operatives, implementation of pre‑determined working systems and procedures to ensure HWRCs are operated safely, compliantly and to specified standards, including council policies. The post holder will make decisions on staff duties, respond to situations independently, and actively participate in operations while fulfilling general duties of a HWRC Operative. Typical Duties: Supervise, direct and assist HWRC operatives in delivering day‑to‑day duties. Ensure tasks are carried out daily and pre‑defined operating standards are met. Record and report information. Engage directly with customers, including managing difficult situations. Maximise the amount of waste separated for re‑use or recycling, encouraging correct waste segregation. Ensure HWRCs comply with quality, environmental and health and safety standards. Use specialist equipment such as excavators and assist in training others. Liaise with contractors to ensure compliance with site rules and standards. Assist in running re‑use shops and other re‑use activities. Pre‑plan tasks and duties to ensure consistent delivery of operations during absences. Train all HWRC operatives to maintain standards and deliver reporting and recording systems. Support the Assistant Operations Manager(s) and Site Manager(s) in delivering relevant aspects of their roles. Additional Requirements: Work on Bank Holidays. Undertake relevant competency qualifications if not already held and renew or refresh them as required. Be trained to operate any mobile or mechanical plant associated with the role and operate that plant as a daily duty. Work at other operational facilities within a reasonable distance of the specified facility as required; travel expenses paid where applicable.
