Position Title and Employer MSK Specialist Physiotherapist – North Bristol NHS Trust Job Overview We are looking for a Senior Physiotherapist to provide operational support to the Physiotherapy Outpatient Lead within the MSK physiotherapy service. The post involves coordination of student and band 5 placements, community appointment days, and demand/ capacity management for the outpatient department. Responsibilities Coordinate student placements, apprenticeship placements, work‑experience students, medical students and return‑to‑practice physiotherapists. Coordination and support of band 5 and band 6 rotations, including liaison with admin and inpatient pathway leads. Assist with the coordination of Community Appointment Days (CADs) – liaise with MSK clinical leads, administer CAD preparation, coordinate staffing and post‑CAD processes. Support the Physiotherapy Outpatient Lead with MSK demand and capacity – manage the waiting list, liaise with the therapy performance manager and physiotherapy admin team, and plan capacity adjustments for holidays or unplanned loss. Perform general duties such as handling referral queries, coordinating recruitment and staff leavers, and delegating tasks to appropriate team leads. Person Specification Pre‑registration education / registration Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy. Evidence of HCPC registration. Post‑graduate training / education Evidence of continuous professional development in musculoskeletal specialty. Evidence of further education or development in leadership and management. Desirable: Master’s level education in musculoskeletal physiotherapy/medicine. Essential Experience Experience working at band 7 level within an MSK outpatient physiotherapy service. Service development and demand/capacity management experience. Managing patients post‑orthopaedic surgery and trauma. Mentoring, supervision, delivering training/education and delegation of duties. Presenting information – written and oral – in a clear, logical manner. Experience working in the NHS and collaborating with other healthcare professionals outside North Bristol Trust. Desirable Experience Quality assurance, audit and research processes. Quality governance experience. Use of Patient First principles for service improvement. Demand and capacity management, trajectory modelling. Essential Skills / Knowledge Highly specialist knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Skills in managing patients with MSK conditions and complex pain syndromes. Service improvement strategy knowledge. Essential Leadership Qualities Advanced communication skills within physiotherapy, the wider MDT and allied health services. Advanced leadership skills.
