Overview Porters at Northampton General Hospital support the safe transfer of patients and equipment across 26+ wards and 60+ clinics. The role may cover full 24/7 shifts or work within the radiology transfer team. Responsibilities Transport patients safely using wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds. Move equipment, collect and deliver post. Manage medical gas and clean portering equipment. Assist with safe transport of deceased and perform additional duties as required. Cover shifts across the full 24‑hour period, including weekends and bank holidays. Work as part of a diverse team, maintaining high standards of communication and confidence. Qualifications & Requirements Entry level – no prior experience required. Motivation, good organisational skills and a willingness to work a structured rota are essential. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Willingness to cover a full 24‑hour shift pattern, with adjustments as service needs change.
