Clinical Nurse Specialist – Melanoma (NHS) Job Summary Turn the complex world of melanoma oncology into a clearer, more compassionate care journey. Join the multi‑disciplinary team at The Christie, one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, to deliver specialist services in immunotherapy, targeted therapy and other novel treatments. Work alongside medical oncology consultants, clinical fellows and advanced practitioners to support patients undergoing systemic anti‑cancer treatments and to coach the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in patient‑centred care. Key Responsibilities Provide a comprehensive nursing service for patients with melanoma through clinical practice, teaching and participation in research. Act as the point of contact for patients, carers and all members of the MDT, providing information and education as required. Develop and lead specialist education, training, and clinical standards for the whole oncology team. Support emotional and practical needs of patients from diagnosis onward, ensuring continuity of care in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Plan, implement and evaluate patient care, managing a caseload and ensuring high quality documentation. Lead, audit and monitor adherence to clinical guidelines, using quantitative and qualitative data to drive quality improvement. Initiate and run nurse‑led clinics (telephone or hospital based) when appropriate. Act as a resource for the MDT, liaising with referring hospitals, GPs, district nurses and specialist nurses across the region. Promote a culture of self‑management and patient‑focused education, including training to self‑manage ongoing treatment consequences. Provide specialist support to ward staff about melanoma and systemic anti‑cancer treatment management. Produce clear written information for healthcare professionals, patients and carers. Participate in multi‑professional meetings, acting as a patient advocate and representing nursing perspectives. Support service development, including the creation of protocols and recovery packages, and maintain effective resource utilisation. Provide specialist nursing input for patients undergoing non‑surgical treatment of melanoma, advising on treatment regimens, side‑effects and self‑management strategies. Collaborate with regional skin‑cancer nurse specialists to facilitate smooth transition of care between trusts. Maintain accurate record systems and collect relevant data for service evaluation, completing annual reports and audits as required. Person Specification – Essential Qualifications: Registered General Nurse (RGN); degree or equivalent in nursing/health; post‑registration qualification in oncology; non‑medical prescribing (NMP) qualification; evidence of leadership, teaching and mentoring. Experience: Post‑registration senior clinical experience, especially in melanoma or related oncology; experience with patients undergoing systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT); service development and change implementation. Skills: Advanced communication skills; autonomous working ability; ability to present information to professional groups; strong organisational and prioritising skills; analytical skill to produce written reports. Knowledge: Professional and NHS issues, policies relating to melanoma; continuing professional development evidence. Demonstrates flexibility in working hours and attends clinics and MDT meetings across sites. Person Specification – Desirable Qualifications in teaching and assessing, Master’s degree, counselling, palliative care or additional nursing non‑medical prescribing. Project management experience; influence change; imaginative use of resources; effective team working across boundaries; evidence of protocol/standard writing. Salary & Benefits Band 7 – £47,810 to £54,710 per annum, pro rata. Fixed‑term, part‑time contract. Working pattern: flexible part‑time within the team.
