We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to work within our well‑established Surrey Heath Children and Young Services team based at Unither House, Chertsey covering the NW patch of Surrey. The Postholder will be responsible for providing clinical input and leadership to our Children and Young Peoples Service clinics. The successful candidate will work with two other consultants, 2 SAS doctors and trainees in a multidisciplinary team setting. This is a very good opportunity for a newly appointed consultant, as there is support, mentorship and opportunities for further development. We provide various community services, integrated health and social care, early intervention, detection programmes, and highly specialised therapy and treatment. There is flexibility on the total amount of PA’s and part time applicants will be considered. Whether you are seeking a fresh start, or the next step in your career, we would love to hear from you Main duties of the job You will have the opportunity to work within a well‑established and friendly team of highly skilled professionals who are passionate and committed to the care needs of children and young people. You are responsible for providing diagnostic, assessment and treatment services for children and adolescents with mental health problems within a multi‑disciplinary approach to care, promoting high‑quality multidisciplinary working and relationships. On average, a full‑time consultant would do 2‑3 monthly assessments and hold a caseload of approximately 60 in our service. Patients have a consultant review after 6 weeks of treatment in the team and then every 2‑3 months. You will participate in an emergency out‑of‑hours rota, providing back‑up for junior doctors and professionals in assessing young people seen in A&E. Person Specification Qualifications MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification. Full medical registration with a licence to practice. Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent. Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications. MRCPsych or equivalent. Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months. Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment. In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice. Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice. Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High‑Quality Care for All). Excellent clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams. Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course.
