In this role you will contribute to, and help shape the future of, Waters mass spectrometry technology, address customers' challenges and advance the frontiers of science in a wide range of disciplines. This includes undertaking research and development into all aspects of cutting-edge mass spectrometry technology, including quadrupole mass filters, time-of-flight mass spectrometers, charge detection (Fourier Transform) mass spectrometers and ion mobility separators.ResponsibilitiesTo undertake research and development into the next generation of Waters mass spectrometry technology, working with engineers to produce prototypes to deliver proofs of concept for commercial developmentUnderstanding Waters customers’ evolving needsBuilding an understanding of the relevant underlying physics of innovative technologyIon optical modellingDesign, construct and evaluate complex technology and conceptsHands-on experimental workContinuous learning to stay abreast of latest technology, including attending and presenting at international scientific conferences and interacting with customers and collaboratorsPresenting results to internal and external audiencesParticipate in agile teams across mixed disciplinesContribute towards Waters’ IP portfolioQualificationsBachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline and five years mass spectrometry or ion mobility hardware development experience or higher degree and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceGood problem solving skillsExcellent communication and decision-making skillsThis role will also provide the opportunity to build your skills in the following areas:Scientific/engineering programmingMathematical modellingIon optical modellingUse of advanced test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes)Data analysisVacuum technologiesIonisation techniquesAny previous experience in these areas is desireable but not essential as long term mentoring will be provided.In addition to a competitive salary, we work flexibly and provide 25 days holidays, excellent family friendly benefits such as attractive employer pension contribution, life assurance, income protection and private medical and dental cover.
