Electrical Engineer (Senior, Principal, Senior Principal or Experienced) - Hydropower (Energy) The Opportunity Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting hydropower projects. Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting‑edge hydropower and pumped‑storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK. It is a great opportunity to join a growing multidisciplinary team involved in projects as varied as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales, and support our growing transmission and distribution business. We play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning. You will lead the electrical engineering design including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines, perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards. As a Principal, you will take line‑management responsibility for some team members, support business growth and strategy development, and own project deliverables. You will also mentor junior engineers and collaborate with civil, mechanical and other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated project design. About You Ideally Chartered or hold Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or be working towards it. Have experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors). Specific experience in hydro and/or pumped‑storage hydro systems is highly desirable but not essential; electrical experience in other sectors, particularly within Energy and Water, is advantageous. Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents, including single‑line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, equipment‑sizing and fault‑rating calculations, load schedules, specifications, and reports. Strong skills in giving technical presentations to clients and design engineers, and active participation in collaborative design discussions and technical workshops. Embody and support our values of client focus, designing with community in mind, collaboration and service excellence. Why Join us? Our People Culture: Close‑knit team and proud of our friendly and collaborative environment. Growth: Exciting growth journey across the UK & Ireland. Awards: Recognised as International Consulting Firm of the Year and Best place to work – Large Consulting Firms at the 2024 NCE awards; consistently in the top 10 Corporate Knights most sustainable companies.
