We are seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join the Energy and Power Research Group for a 6-month appointment. The role involves performing a review on the existing test standards to identify additional requirements that are applicable to switchgear assets based on SF6 alternative gases and to perform switching arc simulation to study the dynamic gaseous environment in the device during and following fault current interruption. This is part of the SATPaSS project: Suitability Assessment of Type Testing Procedures against SF₆-Free Switchgear which is conducted in partnership with National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), funded under the Network Innovation Allowance (NIA). You will play an active role in the following activities: Organising and conducting a comprehensive literature review on existing Type Test standards to identify knowledge gaps for switching assets based on SF6 alternative gases. Establishing and conducting switching arc simulation on a representative circuit breaker to study the dynamics of the gaseous environment during and following high current interruption. If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
