VAT Advisory & Business Development Manager / Senior Manager PKF Littlejohn is the 12th largest accountancy brand and audit practice in the UK and a member of the PKF Global network. Introduction to the Division The VAT division delivers VAT, Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, Personal Tax, Global Mobility and Employment Tax compliance and advisory services. We serve a growing number of corporate clients and manage transactional advisory work across various sectors, including demergers, restructuring, acquisitions and disposals. Responsibilities The role requires an ambitious, confident individual with excellent VAT knowledge to join the growing VAT team. Your primary focus will be cultivating strategic relationships with businesses facing complex VAT challenges, assisting Directors and Partners in winning clients, delivering VAT services, and managing people within the team. Business Development Responsibilities Identify and agree opportunities, relationships and targets with the VAT Partner and PKF’s Business Development team. Use existing strategies or develop/implement new ones to target and win new clients. Progress opportunities proactively and report on progress regularly. Ensure alignment with wider firm BD initiatives in the Financial Services sector and other sectors as appropriate. Collaborate with the Marketing team to support VAT business development objectives. Work with the Proposals team to ensure tender documents and pitch presentations reflect client needs and our value proposition. Client Responsibilities Build & maintain relationships with existing VAT clients, providing high-level service and building trust. Convert quick questions into profitable advisory projects. Manage WIP and billing for own clients, ensuring commercial fee proposals and strong WIP recoveries. Advise on a wide range of VAT issues, including expansion into new jurisdictions, new income streams, and HMRC disputes. Special Work / Ad Hoc Assignments Due diligence Specialist VAT input into audit work Review of complex VAT returns (e.g., partly exempt clients, non-resident landlords of UK property) People Management Encourage development of staff through internal and external training. Manage direct reports and conduct appraisals. Person Specification – Skills, Experience and Qualifications Proven experience winning new VAT projects/clients in a professional services environment. Strong relationship-building skills with commercial and personal awareness. Proven VAT advisory skills in practice. In-depth understanding of key VAT principles. Ability to explain complex issues to non‑VAT experts. Up‑to‑date technical VAT knowledge. Ability to manage a profitable client portfolio. Strong report‑writing skills, including due diligence. Excellent attention to detail when reviewing documents and VAT law. Strong written communication, drafting clear, precise advice. Advanced Word skills; Excel and PowerPoint are an advantage.
