OverviewSenior Consultant | Northwest | Newly Qualified FinanceFinance Manager – MerseysideThis role is with Sowena Group, partnering with a fast-growing construction business at a pivotal expansion stage. As Finance Manager, you’ll take full ownership of day-to-day finance operations, lead a small team, and work closely with senior stakeholders to deliver accurate reporting, robust cashflow forecasting, and meaningful commercial insight. The role suits a hands-on, detail-driven finance professional with strong technical knowledge and a commercial mindset. You’ll ensure financial controls are maintained, processes continue to evolve, and the finance function supports wider business objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day financial operations and transactional activity for the construction company.Oversee and mentor a small finance team, including a Management Accountant and two Accounts Assistants.Maintain accurate weekly cashflow forecasting, working with the Commercial Director and Financial Controller on supply chain payments and funding requirements.Produce and review monthly management accounts in line with project appraisals, budgets and forecasts.Support and drive best practice across the finance department, assisting in the rollout of improved systems and processes.Review and analyse monthly cost reports to support commercial performance and project delivery.Own revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards.Prepare, review and submit VAT, CIS, and payroll returns; maintain strong working knowledge of construction-specific rules and regulations.Ensure all accounts and reports comply with statutory requirements and accounting standards.Act as lead contact for the statutory audit, preparing required information and liaising with external auditors.Partner with commercial and operational teams to provide insight, challenge assumptions, and drive performance improvements.Produce ad-hoc financial reports and analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.RequirementsQualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or equivalent experience.Proven background in management accounting, ideally within construction or a project-based industry.Strong understanding of CIS, VAT, and revenue recognition processes.Experience managing cashflow, forecasting, and month-end close.Skilled in developing and improving financial processes and controls.Confident leader with prior experience managing or mentoring team members.Proficient in accounting software with strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, analysis).Personal AttributesHigh attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.Strong communicator with the ability to build effective relationships across finance and operations.Commercially minded with a proactive, problem-solving approach.Highly organised and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Hands-on, continuous improvement mindset with a drive for excellence.Seniority and Employment DetailsSeniority level: Mid-Senior levelEmployment type: Full-timeJob function: Finance and Accounting/AuditingIndustries: Manufacturing and ConstructionAdditional notes: Referrals may increase interview chances for Sowena Group roles. #J-18808-Ljbffr
