The Opportunity

Our client’s Transportation team in York is expanding, and they are looking for a talented Asset Protection Engineer – Civil Engineering to join their Rail team on a full-time, permanent basis. In this role, you will act as a key interface with stakeholders, ensuring the successful delivery of major assignments and contributing to strategic direction across defined business areas. You will play a central role in aligning project outcomes with the overall vision, objectives, and values of the organisation.

This role is based in the York office for three days per week, with occasional travel to project sites between York and London King’s Cross.

Key Responsibilities

* Coordinate activities with contractors and external partners.

* Liaise with route engineers across relevant disciplines.

* Support all engineering and development assurance activities to ensure projects are affordable, programme-compliant, and delivered safely and sustainably.

* Contribute to engineering assurance processes covering safety, reliability, maintainability, constructability and environmental considerations.

* Review compliance with relevant standards and evaluate options using recognised risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, QRA).

* Oversee or undertake the development of the selected single option design.

* Assure the preparation of full engineering assurance packages required for detailed design and assist with technical queries.

* Carry out engineering verifications and manage engineering interfaces across disciplines.

* Coordinate with project engineers to ensure method statements for site works and surveys meet required standards.

* Verify the competency of contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel (including CEM/CRE appointments).

About You

* Preferably a Chartered Engineer with a relevant engineering degree (BSc/BEng or equivalent) and a minimum of three years’ relevant experience.

* Capable of undertaking the responsibilities of a Project Engineer (PE).

* Strong understanding of CDM 2015 and CSM 2013 regulations, particularly in relation to asset protection for third-party, major and minor works.

* Good knowledge of Network Rail processes, including handback, track support zone requirements and quality management procedures.
