Road Freight Operator

Our client is a well established European and road freight operator with over 80 trucks and over 120 trailers in its fleet. They are a well-known brand in the freight industry known for their high level, service driven services covering the Benelux countries for almost 55 years.
They are looking for an experienced Road Freight Operator to join the team. There is no actual planning involved so the role is similar to that of a freight forwarder offering our services between the UK and Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Germany. There is a very small amount of non-core work to other EU countries which will involve engaging with external suppliers, however the vast majority is handled internally to these countries.
In order to apply the successful candidate will need to have some experience of road freight so they can effectively come in, learn the systems and processes whilst having that understanding of the industry and hit the ground running.
You will be required to engage with clients contacting them via email predominantly or via the phone / website and provide a quotation for the shipment and then engage with the customer to obtain the booking, building relationships with these clients.
On receipt of the booking, you will create that booking within the system and manage the customers' expectations in terms of collection and delivery dates based on geographical awareness and understanding of the fleets location and availability.
Engaging and interacting with that client for each booking from start to finish including generating the invoice once delivered. Ongoing communication with various European based teams to ensure ultimately the customer receives the highest possible level of service.
An understanding of Customs requirements will be an advantage, but no entries will be generated by you but the awareness of what is required and why is important to ensure a smooth flow between the customer, and our Customs team from start to finish would be ideal
The successful candidate will be the sole point of contact for all clients within the Manchester office for all UK export requirements, so this is a fast-paced role handling a large volume of email traffic each day so the ability to work under pressure whilst multi-tasking is a necessity.
Salary and Benefits
Salary £36k - £38k per year as a starting salary but ultimately, we are able to provide the right package for the right candidate, so this is flexible
