Programme Manager (Retail People) Location: London, England, United Kingdom Join the Retail People team at Sainsbury's to lead and drive transformative people programmes that impact colleague experience, organisational capability, and business success. Responsibilities Support the Head of People Programme Management to translate business and workforce strategies into outcomes for the People division. Maintain and update a prioritised work plan agreed with the People Leadership Team, reflecting the business priorities and capacity within the people function. Maintain a live programme plan capturing all people‑impacting activity across the business for clear prioritisation and decision‑making. Develop relationships with People Centres of Expertise, understanding their priorities, outcomes, milestones and interdependencies. Collate and manage interdependencies, risks and issues across outcomes, reporting to the People Leadership Team. Apply external programme management knowledge, insights and techniques/approaches to improve efficiency and simplification of the People Programme. Continuously improve the People Programme, benchmarking against industry best practice. Coach and upskill members of the people outcomes team in project management skills, milestone planning and risk identification. Who You Are Strong Programme Management experience. Experience working in a People / HR function. Project Management Qualification – desirable. Able to plan across multiple time horizons (12 months). Own issues and outcomes, taking full accountability through to resolution or appropriate escalation. Outcome‑orientated and proactive. Identifies opportunities to simplify processes and improve service delivery. Capable of coaching and developing others’ technical capabilities. Strategic thinker who translates high‑level priorities into deliverable plans. Superior influence at senior and cross‑functional levels. Essential Criteria Proven track record of delivering large‑scale, cross‑functional programmes with measurable outcomes on time, within scope and budget. Demonstrable application of recognised programme management methodologies for planning, governance and assurance. Effective stakeholder management at senior levels, including steering group facilitation and influencing decisions for alignment. Analytical skill to assess complex data, identify risks and drive continuous improvement.
