Based at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, London, this post has good transport links making commuting viable within London and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be based on Ruskin ward and will join an experienced and supportive team of Occupational Therapists working within South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Southwark directorate inpatient services and the wider community. If you are looking for a dedicated OT role within an experienced Multi Disciplinary Team, and have a passion for supporting the recovery and service experience of women through a time of acute mental health crisis, then please apply for this role Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be a dynamic, creative, forward thinking and hard-working occupational therapist with solid mental health experience. They will be able to carry out occupationally focused assessments and interventions and will be integrated into the MDT to promote a collaborative approach to the use of therapeutic activity. The post holder will oversee and provide occupational therapy individual and group assessment, intervention and evaluation to women accessing acute inpatient care, promoting safety, recovery and person centred practice. Your continuing professional development will be actively supported through supervision and clinical leadership from the band 7 Clinical Lead OT responsible for Acute, plus a range of additional opportunities such as OT peer support, CPD, and access to training from SLaM and the Quality centre. Job responsibilities Main responsibilities include: To be an integrated team member within the ward team, and Southwark OT team to address occupational and recovery goals for patients. To undertake occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, assessing health and well-being from an occupational perspective. In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and service users, to plan and implement individual or group therapeutic interventions using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals which support recovery. To utilise outcome measures that give clear evidence that occupational therapy has supported individual recovery and social inclusion. To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the service users social and physical environment. Where applicable, to assess and prescribe small aids and equipment and recommend adaptations to maximise independence for service users in home and community environments. Being active in discharge planning, providing occupationally focussed recommendations and working closely with discharge coordinators, care coordinators, wider involved agencies and families/carers to ensure transition into community is done in the most effective and person centred way. Person Specification Qualifications Registered Occupational Therapist Post-graduate training relevant to Mental Health Experience Post registration experience as an OT at Band 5 level in mental health or Learning disabilities Experience of responding effectively and safely to risk and behaviour which challenges within Mental Health settings Experience of working in an inner-city, multi-cultural environment Advising and supporting / supervising junior staff and students Working in an Multi disciplinary team Knowledge and skills Applied knowledge of legislation relevant to Mental Health and Specialist practice where appropriate High level understanding of Mental Health disorders and treatment models Understanding of the importance and supporting service user involvement Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions and outcome measures, relevant to client group Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
