Overview Senior/ Principal Engineer - Tunnel Systems role at WSP. This role leads the design and delivery of tunnel systems for major transport projects, including end-to-end tunnel asset design and advisory services, with a safety-by-design philosophy. Responsibilities Join the Intelligent Infrastructure team to design and advise clients on next-generation tunnel systems technology, supporting transport projects across the UK and beyond. Contribute to WSP’s Tunnel Systems capability, delivering end-to-end tunnel asset design and advisory services with a safety-by-design philosophy. Apply your technical knowledge in mechanical and electrical systems, road tunnel operations, and safety to deliver new build and refurbishment tunnel systems projects across road, rail, and utilities for clients including Local Authorities, National Highways and National Grid. Collaborate with other designers and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outputs that meet client expectations. Qualifications A proven technical capability in the design, operation or delivery of tunnel systems including electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, communications, and control systems. Experience of working in applicable UK standards. An understanding of tunnel operational procedures and practices. Professional registration with an accredited institute preferred. However, if you are currently on a route to professional registration, you will be supported through a mentor and Professional Registration Advisors to take you through the registration process and achieve Chartered Engineer status. A proven track record of working collaboratively with internal and external partners on integrated highway technology projects. Practical understanding of infrastructure design systems, which may include BIM, AutoCAD (or similar), ProjectWise and SharePoint. Ability to motivate, develop and lead junior members of the team, encouraging individual growth and performance. Ability to problem-solve and be self-motivated when undertaking specific tasks.
