OverviewOperational Project Management Summer Placement at Severn Trent. This hands-on opportunity explores how operational excellence and strategic thinking come together to support Severn Trent’s water network infrastructure. You’ll be part of a small but mighty team within Strategic Networks, working on real-world challenges that directly impact customers and communities. The placement covers fieldwork, project planning, and regional site visits across our network.During the programme you’ll be supported by a dedicated mentor and report into the Performance Manager, with opportunities to present learnings to the wider team. At the end of the programme you’ll have the chance to host a DILO session for fellow interns.What you’ll learnUnderstand the Strategic Networks vision and how it supports Severn Trent’s wider goals.Conduct research and analysis to propose replacements for key assets like Venturi Pumps.Explore how operational planning interacts with traffic management, council permits, and repair work.Contribute to the development of condition-based maintenance strategies for PRVs (Pressure Release Valves).Identify process inefficiencies and propose solutions to improve design, planning, and delivery timelines.Support health & safety initiatives by assessing tasks and suggesting improvements.Gain exposure to project management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.Reflect on your experience and present learnings to the wider team.Programme detailsLocation: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ (with regional site visits)Programme duration: 8 or 12 weeksStarting salary: £24,452.04 pro rataHours and travel: 50% regional site visits as part of the placementEntry criteriaDriving licence and access to own vehicle is essential as 50% of time will be spent visiting sites in the regionPreferred degree backgrounds: Project or business management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or related subjectsYou must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorshipWhat we’re looking forA ‘can do’ attitude with ownership of actions and a commitment to high-quality workAdaptability and resilience; comfortable with variety and a fast-paced environmentStrong prioritisation and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and collaboration across multiple teamsCuriosity and a growth mindset; willingness to learn and improveAccountability, integrity, and positive contribution to team cultureCreative thinking and willingness to challenge the status quoSelf-awareness and receptiveness to feedbackDiversity & InclusionSevern Trent is committed to a diverse, inclusive, and cohesive culture.
