Value added data places us in the top 10% of all A- level providers.Geography is part of the Social Sciences department which also includes Psychology, Economics and Sociology. We currently offer Edexcel Geography at Advanced Level. Student success rates in examinations and recruitment onto courses are very good. At present there are approximately 126 students following the syllabus across year 1 and 2.The Social Sciences Department is one of the largest in the College and has had notable success in attracting and retaining students. The Department has a reputation for being extremely supportive and new staff will always be given every assistance with books, resources and any other help they may need. Staff work closely together to plan schemes of work and share good practice. Links with local schools and employers are very good.The courses are well resourced with large, dedicated teaching rooms. Innovation in teaching approaches is very much welcomed and supported. We aim to create constructive and supportive relationships with our students and teachers are committed to providing a high level of support for students and give freely of their time to ensure this takes place.Our priorities are to maintain and extend our examination success and to maintain high levels of student retention. We seek to ensure that we provide students with an experience of learning that is as engaging, interesting and active as possible.We are seeking to appoint a full time or part-time teacher for A level Geography courses. Wherever possible there will be opportunities for individual interests to be developed. There may be opportunity to teach across Departmental boundaries, although naturally this cannot be guaranteed.The intention is to create a timetable around your teaching skills and expertise as we offer a range of social science courses. We’re looking for someone with exciting ideas to build on current good practice and results. As well as teaching a regular timetable, you’ll also play a vital role as a Personal Tutor that motivates, monitors, supports and guides students’ academic progress through the College.The ideal person will embody the principles of success and progression for all students, through teaching excellence in their subject and ability to pass on their passion. As well as a good relevant degree and a currently recognised teaching qualification, recent teaching experience would be useful. However, applications from newly qualified teachers are welcomed too.
